Live a Healthy Life

Stress and Healthy Eating

We all know the pattern: We have a stressful day, we can't sit don anything useful, and so we open the fridge and look for something to eat. We are walking down the street, full of stress from a difficult day at work; we buy a bar of chocolate at the train station to make things feel better. We are sitting to work near our desk at the office, but can't concentrate. We get up and make ourselves our 10th cup of coffee for today.

Most of us know that there are better ways to fight stress. Healthy living will help us manage our stress much better. This doesn't help us when we are at stress and want some relieve immediately. NOW! When we are too busy or stressed we all tend to make these poor food choices. How can fight this pattern? What can we do so that these scenarios won't repeat, at least not so often? The key is preventive action. You have to plan ahead, so that you will not be empty handed when the stress hits you. Here are some simple tips that can help:

Breakfast

Nutritionists tell us breakfast is the most important meal. Don't skip breakfast. Skipping breakfast makes it more difficult to maintain the right blood and sugar levels during the day. Breakfast gives us the energy to start the day on the right way. If you don't have the time in the morning, prepare in the evening a sandwich and a fruit to eat on the way to work in the morning.

Carry a Snack

Instead of buying that chocolate bar, be prepared. Keep in your bag or car some healthy, nutritious snacks to have on the way. Having protein rich snacks handy in your office, pocket book or car will help you avoid blood sugar level dips, the accompanying mood swings, and the fatigue they bring. Trail mix, granola bars and energy bars have the nutrients you need, and help you avoid those bad eating habits.

Healthy Munchies

If you work at home or in a office with a fridge you are used to visit when stressed out, fill your fridge with healthier munchies. Keep in your fridge a box with freshly cut vegetables, as carrot sticks, celery sticks, cucumbers or sunflower seeds. When you feel you have to munch something, instead of getting that pack of chips or yesterdays pizza remains, you'll have healthier alternatives ready for you.

Bring your lunch to work

Many people will go out during their lunch break at work to eat fast food. This is an easy option, but actually comes out expensive, and is unhealthy. You'll save yourself money by taking a few minutes to prepare yourself something for lunch and pack it in a box to take to work. It can be either sandwiches or something more complicated, but whatever it is, even if you do it only 2-3 times a work you will see how much money you save and how much healthier you feel.

Stock you home

As important it is to get out the bad food from your home, it is even more important to fill your kitchen with the good food! Think ahead at the beginning of the week of a list of healthy food you would like to it, and get all the ingredients. Put a list of healthy available options on your fridge, so that you will not have to stress about what to eat.
